Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the perfect rental in Hilton Head:
- Choose your vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Villa with Ocean Views, Shared Pool\/Hot Tub, and More - Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
