Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hilton Head rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Condo, Two Bedroom, Second Floor has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
