Our top Rental home tips:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Updated beach gem with ocean views, pool, hot tub, & tennis - snowbird-friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
