Hilton Head rental home booking tips:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect rental:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Spacious Oceanfront Villa with 4th Floor Ocean Views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
