Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Lovely Townhouse with WiFi, Lagoon View, Pool, Hot Tub & More has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you long to visit, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
