Rental home booking tips:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking your prefectrental:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Ideally located condo with pool, tennis court, balcony, and direct beach access has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. Otherwise, email the host before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
