Strategies for getting the perfect rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. 424 Captains Walk has panoramic ocean views located in Palmetto Dunes. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
