Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • To book the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Conveniently located, gorgeous home with private pool & elevator - walk to beach has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
