Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Family-Friendly Townhome with Lagoon View, Shared Pool, Hot Tub & Tennis has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
