Tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Family-Friendly Townhome with Lagoon View, Shared Pool, Hot Tub & Tennis has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
