Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog friendly home w/ an enclosed yard, pool deck, & private pool has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
