Tips to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Contemporary Condo with Shared Pool, Hot Tub & Patio with Al Fresco Dining has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
