Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book the rightrental:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Beautifully Renovated Oceanfront Villa w\/Heated Swimming Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
