How to get the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Planning and picking the right Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Start by having your family select dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Fabulous Beach Retreat with a beautiful view of the ocean has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
