Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the perfectvacation home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Beautiful Golf Course Views From Your Private Deck! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
