Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Book your Hilton Head vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best rental in Hilton Head:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious and bright 2 Bedroom/2 Bathroom Townhouse Great Golf Views Sleeps 6 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
