Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your group decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 2516 Villamare - Nicely updated fifth floor condo in Hilton Head Island! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
