Or you can head just a little bit further to the Village at Wexford for even more eateries and boutique stores. For a unique interactive museum experience, head to Sandbox. The whole family can have some fun at Pirate's Island Adventure Golf. The historic Harbour Town Lighthouse is also just a short drive from the condo. The Shipyard Plantation Beach Club features a host of private, oceanfront amenities and beach access just a short drive from the condo.

Between outings, relax in the living room while streaming shows and movies on the intelligent TV or make your way out to the water-view deck for coffee or cold beverages. Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
