Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and picking your Hilton Head rental home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Stunning oceanfront villa with WiFi, pool & hot tub, private balcony has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, reach out to the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
