Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Stunning beach condo with two ocean-view balconies, shared pool & hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
