Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
