Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your family choose trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Queen’s Grant Condo w/5 pools, tennis center, private gas grill, great location has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home.
