Tricks and tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect rental:

  • Start by having your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Peaceful Oceanfront Villa with Pools, Hot Tub, Tennis, & Ocean View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
