Rental home tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the perfect vacation home:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Inviting villa with on-site golf, tennis and pool plus 2 patios, games has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
