Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your Hilton Head rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental home:

  • Start by having your group select vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Family-Friendly Condo with Shared Pools, Hot Tub & Private Resort Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
