Booking the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Hilton Head:

  • To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Coastal resort condo with pool, tennis courts, beach access, golf, new deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
