Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best vacation home in Hilton Head:
- First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Coastal-Chic Poolside Home w/ Large Balcony, Lagoon Views & Beach Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
