How to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your group choose date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Beautiful updated condo- On-site pool, blocks from beach and Coligny Plaza has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
