Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick your prefect Hilton Head rental home:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Beautiful Condo in Fantastic Location Near Beach w\/Shared Pool, WiFi, AC, W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
