On Tuesdays from Mid June to Mid August, Shelter Cove Harbour hosts it’s Harbourfest program, which includes a majestic fireworks display. The fireworks are deployed from a barge out in the Broad Creek. Outside’s Fireworks Paddle is a unique experience that combines our ever popular 2 Hour Guided Kayak Tour with the added bonus of watching the Shelter Cove Harbourfest Fireworks from the best seat in the house – out on the Creek in a kayak!
As with all of our guided tours, an Interpretive Naturalist guide, who is also a kayak expert, leads the Fireworks Paddle. At the start of your trip you will meet your guide, who will begin with a brief paddling clinic that offers a learning experience for new paddlers and a refresher for seasoned ones. Your guide will go over how to hold the paddle, sit in the boat, execute efficient strokes and maneuver the boat to your will. After that, your guide will help to launch you out into the Broad Creek Wildlife area from our state of the art launch. Safe and comfortable single or double kayaks are available. From there, your guide will lead you to different points of interest, explaining the nature, history and culture relevant to what you are seeing. The whole time you and your guide will be looking for dolphins and other wildlife out on the water.

After watching the breathtaking sunset over the Creek, your guide will lead you to a calm, protected area where your group will ‘raft up’ to watch the fireworks. After getting your boat outfitted with glow sticks, the show begins! You will see the full fireworks display from a safe but close distance. To round out the excursion, your guide will bring your group back into the marina and help everyone out of their boats.
In addition to this unique kayaking experience, the Harbourfest event boasts a number of great food and entertainment vendors. Make an evening of it and plan to spend a few hours taking in all the fun before your kayak trip!
Children under 12 must be on a tandem kayak with an adult.
