Strategies for getting the perfect rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your Hilton Head vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family select vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 108 Beachwalk Pet Friendly Condo, Steps to the Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
