Strategies to get the optimal rental experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose yourrental:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • St. Andrews 1880 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
