Finding the best vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectrental:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Peaceful Oceanfront Villa with Pools, Hot Tub, Tennis, & Ocean View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
