Finding the best vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. A Traveler's Dream! Recently Updated HHBT 1st Floor Condo has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your trip.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
