Rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group select date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Dog-Friendly, Two-Level Condo w\/Shared Pool & Tennis Court, W\/D, Free WiFi, & AC has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
