Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. All-Suite Shipyard Plantation Home with Decks, Fairway Views & Gas Grill has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
