Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:

  • Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Sunset Rentals
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
