Rental property booking tips:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to select the perfect vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront First-Floor Condo w\/Balcony, Free WiFi, Private W\/D, and Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
