Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ideally located condo with pool, tennis court, bikes, balcony, deck, W\/D & AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
