Money Saving Rental Tips

  • Find the official tourism bureau in the area you wish to travel. Most official tourism bureaus will send you tourism guides with promotions for vacation rentals, dining and tours. These guides may provide a good start to your vacation rental search.
  • Are the vacation dates changeable? Shoulder seasons offer amazing deals.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Military may qualify for financial savings. Be sure to confirm with property owner to see if your travelling crew qualifies for a discounted rate.
  • Some properties are particularly suited for specific groups of visitors. Event homes are perfect for weddings, wedding receptions and corporate retreats. Some rentals cater to beach bums. Other homes are positioned close to nightlife. You'll get the most value from a home which most thoroughly suits your ideal trip setting, regardless if it costs a bit more.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners generally offer their customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually add between 1% - 5% of the basic vacation rental price, offers visitors reimbursement of their travel costs for any missed a result of health-related emergencies or hurricanes, in addition to ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, like an unanticipated motel stay or additional fuel. Trip insurance might just be a bank account-saver if the unforseen occurs (heaven forbid!).

The Rental Process

First-timers tend to be shocked at the number and wide selection of short-term properties available in the Hilton Head area. Rental homes are gaining in popularity among vacationers, and visitors will find that the sheer number of rentals available makes it possible to find an perfect getaway to fit their Hilton Head gang, from low-noise condominiums to gigantic event homes with several bedrooms.

Vacation rentals are often owner operated or managed by property management companies. Property management companies are well-liked by property owners mainly because they manage the marketing and operations..

Below are great tips and suggestions to help you understand the vacation home search and reservation process.

Where to find and reserve a great rental property:

Do you believe "Great 3rd Floor unit in Building 4 of Hilton Head Resort" is the best rental property for your upcoming getaway? Read this guide to ensure it fits all of your needs.

The Earlier, The Better

Hilton Head rental homes book several months (and up to a year) in advance. To assure the most desirable choice of rental homes, we recommend searching and booking your Hilton Head rental Six-12 months before your travel dates, whenever you can. Many households decide to begin their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holiday gatherings.

Pick a Town and Time

Begin by picking which particular area of Hilton Head you'd like to visit, and the choose travel dates.

Bedrooms and Bed Sizes Matter

How many family members are planning to share your vacation? Remember that a lot of rental homes list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the living room. You will need to figure out what is suitable for the family. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are typically accessible on the internet. Otherwise, get in touch with the property owner before you book.

Decide on Your Budget

Will the preferred rental property fit your budget during that prime Summer week? Make certain to get cost-sharing commitments from loved ones prior to reserving a costly rental home. One member of your family must be in charge of gathering repayments and agreeing to responsibility for the complete rental cost at time of booking.

Compose a list of "Preferences" and "Necessities"

What amenities is the family searching for? Do you simply want a rental with a swimming pool, spa tub or beach volleyball court? Would you like to be far from the crowds, or close to a city setting? Will the property have bicycles and beach toys for use as part of your stay? Gather a list of "needs and desires" from your party to help filter your search to the perfect rental.

Accessibility and Special Things to consider

Do people in your crew have specific needs? If wheel chair entry, elevators, pool lifts or other specialized equipment is needed, factor that into your search. Almost all rental postings will include a list of amenities.

Take the Dog

Are you or other members of the crew traveling with a domestic pet? Animals are welcome at a number of rental properties, but guidelines can vary. Many limitations may eliminate a potential rental. Study your contract carefully! Extra charges may apply when animals are included. Ask questions *before* you reserve!

Its Time to Search

When the area, dates and people are decided, search multiple resources for the greatest vacation rental selection. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "Hilton Head local vacation homes" for local property management companies. Local vacation home management companies take pride in a superior rental experience.

Negotiate the Price

When you've identified your dream rental, make sure your trip dates are available.

While not true for all rental properties, many rental owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If they are hesitant to budge on a peak-season trip, try asking for an extra night. Your easiest chance for a reduced rate is switching to a less desirable week.

Read the Agreement

Read through the full contract and make certain you are aware who is responsible for:

  • Electric bills
  • Internet
  • Long Distance Phone Service
  • Pool Heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Cleaning Fees
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking requirements

Get a total that includes state taxes, pet and other additional fees.

If you must Cancel

Be sure to be aware of the cancellation policy prior to booking. Many rental agreements include an option for trip insurance. Trip insurance safeguards the renter against emergencies and weather events, It gives you peace of mind should tragedy strike.

Reserve It

Once you think you've found "the one", begin the reservation process. Remember that most rental agreements require a significant rental deposit and/or security deposit to safeguard the home owner.

Get Contact Info

Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We suggest storing the contact's information in your phone and wallet.

Congrats on booking your rental! You're on your way to a phenomenal vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take pictures at your arrival. To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, create a record of any problem areas of the property. If you find damage, or if fixes are required call the rental manager straight away. If there is a difference of opinion about legal liability later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will probably be useful.
  • Ask questions. If you have any ambiguity about vehicle parking, policies of the property, property access, swimming pool functions, etc... we suggest you ask the rental home manager promptly. A phone call can save several hours of hassle.
  • Remember to respect your nearby neighbors. More often than not, surrounding residences are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and vehicle parking regulations can make a trip a little more enjoyable.
  • Ask a local. Locals may point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best areas for wildlife?
  • Enjoy your stay! Make sure that you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation home secured while you are away, just like you would at home.

When its Time to Leave

  • Double-check each room of the rental property to make sure you've packed all personal belongings.
  • Once everything is out, perform a walk-through of the rental home to verify no damage occurred during your remain. We advise walking through with the rental manager wherever possible (this isn't always the case).. If the property owner is not available, be sure to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a good time? Many rental management company sites request reviews after your stay . Owners and rental managers will appreciate your glowing ratings. If something went wrong and they did not correct it in a practical manner, or if the property was not as described, you should note that in your comments.

Use Your Experience

Does everybody want to return next year? Maybe everything turned out to be wonderful and you're ready to reserve the rental home for next year. If not, you have gained valuable rental search experience to aid with another search.
