Tips to get the very best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Custom Home on Lagoon -Short Walk to Beach-Ensuite Bath for Each BR-Pool-Elev has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
