Money Saving Strategies

  • Many management companies and rental properties supply Hilton Head area vacation discount catalogs which include promotions, either offered independently by vendors, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the local store itself. These guides provide a good start to your rental search.
  • In a position to change your trip dates? Shoulder seasons provide impressive deals.
  • Several rental companies and owners offer price reductions for active and veteran members of the Military, or repeat vacation goers of the same rental. Be sure to check with property management company to see if your vacationing crew is eligible for a special offer.
  • Some properties are particularly suited for specific groups of visitors. Large event homes are ideal for weddings, wedding receptions and corporate escapes. Some properties cater to wildlife enthusiasts. Other properties are positioned close to night life. You'll get the most value from a home which most thoroughly suits your ideal holiday setting, even if it costs a bit extra.
  • Property management companies and individual property owners generally offer their clients an option to buy trip insurance coverage. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you somewhere between 1% - 5% of the basic rental rate, provides guests reimbursement of their trip costs for any missed as a consequence of personal health emergencies or weather, in addition to ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel room stay or additional gasoline.

The Rental Process

First-timers are likely to be surprised at the number and wide variety of short-term rental properties available in the Hilton Head area. Rental home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of essential research sites like Tripadvisor and VRBO.

Nearly all rental properties in Hilton Head are privately operated and many are represented by established local rental management agencies. Property management companies leverage scale, equipment and knowledge to provide hassle-free operational administration on behalf of the owner..

Seasoned Hilton Head vacationers have discovered a handful of tips and tricks throughout the years with regards to renting vacation homes, however most novices will be delighted to know that several "strategies" are in plain sight, if you know where they should search.

Searching for and booking the perfect rental property:

Before you decide to book "Beautiful Condo Retreat w/Private Washer/Dryer, Shared Pool & Tennis Court, WiFi", read through our brief collection of issues to consider.

Search Early and Often

Like many renowned hot spots, In Hilton Head the best vacation homes are booked early. To guarantee the greatest choice of properties, we suggest searching and reserving your Hilton Head getaway 6-12 months before your travel dates, whenever you can. A lot of families choose to start their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holiday gatherings.

Pick your Place and Travel Week

Consensus can be complicated among family, but the moment this challenging part is complete everything will start to slide in place.

Just How Many Beds?

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Be aware that many homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the home's living room. It is important to figure out what is suitable for your company. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are usually available online. If not, communicate with the property owner before you book.

Create a Spending Limit

Does your chosen vacation property fit your budget during that popular Summer week? If a few individuals or families are sharing the cost, ensure each person understands their responsibilities and has approved a maximum they are willing to pay. Most rental contracts require a single person to be responsible for the entire reservation.

Create a list of "Wishes" and "Needs"

What amenities is the group looking for? Is a screened deck a necessity? Would you like to be away from it all, or close to a city setting? Are items like beach chairs, barbecue grills, beach umbrellas, buggies or coolers at your disposal and included with your rental property payment? Make a list of prioritized "needs and wishes" from your company to help narrow your search to the most appropriate rental.

Accessibility and Special Considerations

Do a few members of your group have specialized needs? Make sure you remember and inquire about wheel chair access, pool lifts and special equipment requirements..

Have You Considered Furry Family Members?

Remember to include your pets. Dog policies are different at each property. Read descriptions thoroughly. You'll want to study descriptions and contracts carefully. Charges may apply when pets are added. Ask questions *before* you reserve!

Start your Search

. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "Hilton Head local rentals" for local property management companies. Apart from offering exclusive properties, local agencies offer top-notch service..

Negotiate the Price

When you have identified the rentalhome of your dreams, check to confirm your trip dates are available.

Although not true for all rental homes, many property owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If they are hesitant to budge on a highly-desirable trip, try asking for an additional night. Negotiating rates is most effective throughout the off-peak season when many rental homes sit empty.

Read through the Total Agreement

Find out which of the following is included in your quoted rate:

  • Electric bills
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Telephone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Housekeeping
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking requirements

Get a total that includes state taxes, pet and other additional fees.

Trip Insurance

Ensure you be aware of the cancellation policy prior to reserving. You'll likely be offered trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of your base rental home price, provides vacationers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental costs) for any days missed due to personal medical-related emergencies or weather, in addition to hurricane evacuation expenses, such as a unanticipated motel stay or additional gas.

Complete the Booking

After you believe you've found "the one", start the booking process. You will likely have to submit a security deposit at time of reservation.

Where to Get Assistance

Put the property manager's contact information into your smartphone and wallet for convenient access to answers during your trip.

Good luck on booking your rental home! You're on the right path to a terrific vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take notes of any problems right after you arrive. We also advise immediately phoning the rental home manager with a report of any problems, along with your request for any repairs. This may prevent conflicts during checkout.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a gas fireplace, Television or hot tub. Call your home manager. They are there to help. A phone call can save several hours of trouble.
  • Remember to be a good next-door neighbor. Local people will likely be as friendly to you as you are considerate of them. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your residence.
  • Ask a local. Locals can often point you in the right direction.
  • Enjoy your stay! Make certain to protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental home secured while you are away, just like you would in your own home.

Check Out Time

  • Tidy up a little bit. Despite the fact that you're spending money on a cleaning fee, The vacation rental should really be in very good condition. Sinks full of dirty dishes, surplus beach sand on the flooring and sticky messes ought to be dealt with before leaving.
  • Once everything is out, do a walk-through of the property to make sure no property damage occurred during your stay. If it is possible, do this walk-out assessment with the property manager present. If the property manager is not available, make certain to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you enjoy your rental home? Most rental management companies and rental search sites allow renters to provide comments. If the property and/or property manager was top notch, they will appreciate your positive reviews. If something went wrong, we recommend being pleasant but completely honest in regards to your rental experience. Top owners and managers will try very hard to solve the situation.

Use Your Experience

Does everyone want to go back? With a little luck everything ended up being fantastic and you are all set to re-book the same rental home for next season. If the rental property wasn't perfect, and you will better understand how to filter your search for the next time.
