Tips to get the very best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book a perfect Hilton Head vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Upgraded condo on waterfront with pool, hot tub, & tennis access - near beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
