Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Stunningly remodeled 3rd floor villa with ocean views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
