Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. First-Floor, Oceanfront Condo w/Free WiFi, Balcony, Shared Hot Tub, Pool, Sauna has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
