Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • To book the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick the bestrental:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautiful ocean-view condo with beach access, pools, hot tub, tennis has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
